yarn along: fluff

I've been having fun this week knitting fluffy cables and reading Mindy Kaling's light collection of essays Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns). Reading her essays is like chatting with a friend.

The project is a Frosting cowl, which taught me to cable without a cable needle. In my nerdy knitting world this is a great advancement, akin to climbing a small mountain or something else normal people consider impressive. The whole universe of cables is open now. Perhaps the Rocky Coast cardigan is in the realm of possibility? The Frosting cowl is a fast knit, plus I've been knitting in overdrive because I'm very excited to wrap up in a cowl on freezing cold mornings, and I need the needles for another project.

  1. Oh, it's so pretty and "fluff" is the perfect descriptive word! I didn't know that there was a specific cable needle...see how little I know?

  3. Oh the Rocky Coast is so very beautiful! You must knit it up so I can watch your progress. I've been doing little cables lately myself! And that book. As soon as I was done, I thought "That was fun." Then I realized just how much I liked it as a week, two, three later I would catch myself chuckling at something and remembering it. Yep, like having a conversation with a friend!

  4. It's beautiful...so far. I just skimmed the pattern, looks like you just pinch those 3 stitches instead of using a cable needle...why not? Sounds like it would be much quicker!!!

  8. What is the pattern you are using for those cables? That is absolutely adorable & way more interesting than any of my cables I've taught myself.
Also, love that cardigan pattern. Thanks for sharing such awesome links :)

  10. With the way you are knitting -- maybe you should buy another pair of needles! I love Mindy -- she's such a hilarious character on The Office.

  11. It's beautiful! I've been wanting to try cables but the idea of *another* needle has been a scary one. I'll have to research this pattern more.

And I saw that author promoting her book on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart a while back---looks funny!
