Hello! So I missed my own first blog anniversary, which was back in May and I never did get around to celebrating the 200 post mark which happened sometime in April. Not all is lost, however, because I'm a 'better late than never' kind of girl, so let's have a little belated celebration.
To start, I wanted to share with you the origins of my blog's name. I picked the name from an embroidery I completed just before I began blogging which read "through the field wonderful," a phrase I had pulled from an ee cummings poem. I still love the poem so much. The stanza it comes from reads (and forgive me, I don't think I can replicate the spacing here but I'll do my best):
Tumbling-hair
picker of buttercups
violets
dandelions
And the big bullying daisies
through the field wonderful
with eyes a little sorry
Another comes
also picking flowers
--ee cummings
To celebrate one year of blogging and over 200 posts and also to thank you for taking the time to read my words and look at my photos, I'm giving away 2 cards and a mini-doily pillow. These small gifts reflect some of the things I love: handwritten letters from friends, crocheting, and sewing.
If you've been reading for a while you'll know that I am completely smitten by doilies and vintage lace. My house has become filled with doily pillows over this past year. This mini-doily pillow is made from a small doily that I crocheted, sewn onto my favorite unbleached cotton cloth and stuffed with batting and a couple of thimblefuls of lavender. It would make a perfect pincushion or a lovely sachet. You could leave it on your dresser to make your morning routine a bit more peaceful or on your desk to keep your working hours calmer.
To enter, simply leave a comment on this post and make sure to leave your email address so that I can contact you if you win (a comment that links to your profile is fine too, as long as your email address is there). Any comment will do, but I am really interested in specific things that you like or dislike about blogs. I'm always making little changes here at field wonderful, and I would love to get your input.
**For an extra chance to win become a follower of this blog and make sure to leave me another comment to let me know. **
**For another extra chance to win, blog about this giveaway or post about it on facebook. Of course, leave another comment to let me know you did this.**
So that's 3 chances to win. Woohoo!
This giveaway is open worldwide and I welcome international entries. I'll close the giveaway on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 8 PM EST. Then I'll choose a winner at random.
Good luck and thank you so very much for reading my blog!
I am a doily lover! What I like most about blogs/blogging are the inspirational ideas/images and new friends that I continue to meet (like you!).

ReplyDeleteOhhhh -- there's nothing better than lavender. Definitely calming. I used to grow it in my garden. Now -- onto what I like best about blogs are the wonderful inspiration they provide. It's such a creative community and I love getting (okay -- stealing) new ideas for making, baking, growing and just plain living.
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely giveaway you're having! I would so like to win. I love connecting with people and communicating through the blogs. I'm already a follower.

That is such a sweet little pillow! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI love the friendships I've made here in Blog Land. And the exchange of ideas. Oh, and the laughs. I love having a glimpse of peoples' lives and homes, etc.
I don't like how it can make one feel...inferior? There seems to be a lot of pressure to keep up with The Blog Land Joneses. And that can suck.
And I follow you on my Google Reader...I have for some time now.
I love sewing and craft tutorials.
ReplyDeleteAs the beneficiary of your last giveaway I just want to let you know how much I am enjoying the beautiful pillow you made. I smile everytime I look at it and was able to explain to my son that it is a wonderful gift from a kind friend. Thanks again Allison.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all the milestones here at your blog, Allison! I definitely enjoy visiting this wee space you've created here.
ReplyDeleteThe things I like in a blog are good pictures and thoughtful content.
Thanks for the chance! :)

Happy blog anniversary! The things I like most about blogs...I like well composed and intriguing pictures, thoughtfuly crafted posts, and posts about recipes/meal plans and crafty Works in Progress.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm naive, but I think that it's fairly easy to tell a great deal about a person and their motivation for blogging after you've read them for awhile. It's easy to pick out the people who are trying to find blog fame or are in some sort of "popularity contest" race. Even though I've never met you in person, reading your blog for the last several months makes me confident in saying that you seem like a genuine, kind, and generous soul. I look forward to another year of good stuff! :)
Lovely! Congrats on your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance. I love your little crochet pillow! I like blogs that are honest, a bit off beat, and that inspire me in my own creative thinking. Good photos are important, too. lovelyworld@me.com
ReplyDeleteSweet little lavender pillow!
ReplyDeleteI would love a chance to win.
Blog likes and dislikes? Personally, I love blogs that are super simple and "clean" looking. Love it when there are good photos, although with good text, I have happily read those without. I like blogs that are honest and genuine.
Happy blog and post anniversaries!
Nicola
I love visiting your blog. I enjoy seeing photos that you've taken of your food and crochet creations. After visiting your blog, I feel like I'm living in a more pleasant and peaceful world. Thank you for sharing it with all of us!
ReplyDeleteHello! I love that you can go on a little "walk" through blogs by clicking on someones links of favorites and then click on one of their favorites and so on. You never know what you may find! You *could* find a lovely little giveaway of a beautiful doily pillow and hand drawn cards. Then you *may* leave a little comment and then if you are very VERY lucky, you *might* win the little giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!

Such a sweet giveaway! I love reading blogs that have passion. Passion for the things they make and do. These days if they don't have any passion, I don't read. So, take that as a good sign!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on reaching the 200 and the year, it really is a big achievement.
Oh, and I have been following for a while now too :)
Cute!! I love the little pillow. Lavender is my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteI love it when blogs have lots of pictures and LOTS OF QUOTES!!! I'm a quote obsessee. :D And DIY projects are the best. Giveaways are nice too ;)
What I don't like are when blogs are very cliched, or all about high fashion. I'm a fashion geek, but when it's SOLELY about fashion, or certain designers... I just get a little bored reading about the same thing post after post. :P

Happy blog anniversary - I too love doilies. What I love about your blog and some of my other favs (like Soulemama) are the simple photos and words of everyday life - ee cummings was able to describe life in his poetry so beautifully and I think most of the blogs that I enjoy are attempting to do that - we should enjoy each day as it comes - the moments that might slip away if we don't stop and look and remember. thanks for a great blog and for the chance to win
ReplyDeleteI just became a follower - thanks for the 2nd chance to win
