Hello and happy Friday! This week has been so busy, but I'm glad to have a little bit of time to visit with you this morning.
I thought I'd share my Doily Sweater today. It started as a plain khaki-colored cardigan that my mom handed down to me. Whenever I wore it I just felt kind of boring. So last year when I saw this lovely, jazzed up cardigan I knew I had to make one of my own.
I gathered my supplies: a couple of motifs crocheted by me, some lace and doily from this crafty blogger (thanks, Deb!), and a thrifted mini-doily. I hand-stitched all of these lacy items onto the sweater and then left it hanging in the living room for months, waiting for inspiration to strike again so that I could finish it. Hey Inspiration, where are you? I'm still waiting...
Now, this cardigan still doesn't feel finished to me, which is why it has only made a brief appearance on this blog. It needs more doilies, bits of vintage fabrics, and a swap out of buttons. But...it's cold out and I've been reaching for this sweater on chilly mornings despite its unfinished status. I'm kind of a work-in-progress myself, so this cardigan fits me well.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! You still have time to enter my giveaway!
Thanks so much for sharing this! It is adorable. I have a collection of vintage lace and doilies from my husband's family and mine and a sweater that might be perfect already in my closet... now I just need some time...
ReplyDeleteReally great!
I think it has just the right amount! Maybe add some edging on the sleeves? I do think a button switch would jazz it up...especially if they are mismatched.
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome. I'm thinking about crocheting a large doily, tea-dying it, and adding it to a t-shirt. I saw a link on someone's blog...can't remember who and thought it was amazing. But it involves hand stitching. I am not a fan.
I'll have to get over it.
...came via Vintage Swap. Great idea. There is thrift shop with boxes of hand crocheted doilies and lace...it sits there and few people pick them up....I've had it in mind to pick up a whole box or 2 and put together some sort of doily quilt or curtain - nice idea here!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I think you could do MORE...and some little gold beads sewn into the doilies, too, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect! I"m a sucker for doilies, no matter where they are but they look especially lovely here!
ReplyDeleteYour Cardigan is just so sweet Allison :)
ReplyDeleteand it looks Beautiful on you!
Very cute. I plan on making some of the pillows myself. I've just been gathering all of the colors before I start. Your sweater looks lovely on you. Great job.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - much like you. :) And I love your new banner and profile picture, Allison! (They may not be new I realize, since I've been out of the blog loop for so long, but I did want to mention that they are awesome!)
