billy buttons

Lately every time I walk through the kitchen I find myself stopping to spend time with these seedlings. More than once I've found myself eye-level with the dirt, scanning to see if more seeds are on the verge of sprouting. I give them a spritz of water and a bit of encouragement. This is the first time I've grown anything from seed, and I am amazed at how quickly they've gone from seeds to plants. The sunflowers grew their first true leaves, so I had to re-pot them to give them enough room to grow. And I just pulled my lavender seeds from their month-long chill in the refrigerator a couple of days ago. Already I can see a tiny speck of green in the soil, a tightly curled ball of leaves waiting to unfurl.

Now I just need to start working on the yard so I'll have a place to plant all of these seedlings...

What's going on in your part of the world? Anything growing?

  1. Thanks for the link love! And ohmygoodness those tumblr photos... my heart is full.

  2. lavender seeds...month long chill? how interesting! I never knew... I do love watching seedling grow, like a amazing miracle made possible by God ♥

  3. Your little fledgling plants are so cute! Just yesterday, we discovered two sprouts of cucumbers in our square foot garden. (We did what Kristen did and took a risk by planting two months early!) Looks like we're in the clear though (fingers crossed)!

We also planted yellow squash, zucchini, winter squash, tomatoes, carrots and onions. I'm eager to see what seeds are next to pop up!

  4. Our dining room smells of soil and seedlings. We planted vegetables that were supposed to take 14-30 days to germinate; they were a few inches tall a week later! We've already re-potted several. Now, we just need to get the garden tilled and the fence around it fixed (our dog chewed through it). Happy planting!

  5. Awwww.... thanks for sharing my cardigan!
