Happy Birthday to your sister! You asked about crocheting the covers for the stones. At first I followed the patterns Margie wrote for the Crochet Today article. Once I got a sense of the way those fit, I started to experiment with other patterns. I guess I would say that certain parts are from a pattern, then I improvise from there. I have a really great old book called Crochet Designs from Hungary. Lots of doilies and lace. I picked up some designs from it for the stones. I'd love to see what you've made too!
