the wait of the world

I am still here, still waiting on a baby. I've tried coaxing and I've tried demanding, but so far he seems pretty content in there.

Thank goodness I finished all the baby knits I had on the needles because in the last week I've developed pregnancy-related carpal tunnel syndrome. It's driving me crazy not to be able to knit. What do people do? My hands feel unnaturally still.

I will keep this brief because computer use doesn't help my hands and wrists any, but I just wanted to stop in and show some finished knits that I hope will be wardrobe staples for our new guy this winter.

The Gramps cardigan is one of my favorite patterns. This blue one is the second I've made, and I have a toddler-sized one on the needles right now to finish when I can knit again. The shawl collar and tiny pockets make me smile every time. I found some vintage buttons in my stash that were the perfect color. I can't wait to see my boy cuddled up in his squishy Barley hat and old man pants, too!

If you have any ideas of how to make this waiting game go faster, I'm all ears! Knitting definitely helped me stay calm and pass the time, so now I'm at a loss for what to do.

  1. Aww! Congratulations...the waiting game won't last much longer! I developed carpel tunnel as well during my last pregnancy, which put off all my crocheting...I was literally still making Jules' blanket in the hospital after she was born. Thankfully, it goes away quickly, so you'll be knitting again before you know it! Let us know when he arrives!

  2. How exciting! I love the baby knits, they're so sweet. Ouch carpal tunnel! You sure it's pregnancy related in stead of excess knitting related 😉? Just kidding, hope you get rid of that soon and that you won't have to wait longer anymore to meet your baby boy!

  3. I'm waiting, too! Two weeks til my due date, though. Such sweet handknits. I esp. like the Gramps cardigan.

Yes, the pregnancy carpel tunnel problem is very frustrating. I'm in the same boat, and knitting and crocheting are on hold, since I must be able to type at work. Even holding my iPad makes it flare up!

  8. Ooh I feel your pain. I had carpel tunnel many years ago and the pain was awful. I do hope yours goes away after you have your little guy. I love the baby hand knits, and the gramps cardigan is delightful. I hope he arrives soon and make sure you get plenty of sleep before he comes.

  9. Lots of walking and sex. Or at least that's what we were told when waiting for our daughter. She was born at 40w6d. I'm positive you've heard it before, but the good news is you won't be pregnant forever.

I love the knits, they are adorable!! Maybe try some reading since you can't knit? Or sewing with a machine if it's less stress? (I don't sew much, lol). But I think lots of walks and playgrounds with Jude are perfect ways to soak up the remaining days of only child ;)

Best of luck for a smooth and beautiful birth day! :-D

  13. I have the same, numbness in fingers and hurts the most when I try to sleep (on my side) as it must cut off circulation at my shoulder too. ♥ I can't wait to meet our baby and find out if it's a boy or girl! I look forward to seeing newborn photos on your blog, too. Such beautiful knits! I have been just been enjoying the time together with our family...
